Maybe it’s the dark background, but for some reason this photo looks like a promo for a Hitchcock movie, don’t you think? I live near Puget Sound in Washington State and we have many seagulls here too. Usually, they just poop on us or steal French fries though.

Thomas, I love the way the gulls stand out against that beautiful dark sky. Your photography skills show as the whole picture is made up of dark elements and yet each shows so very clearly. I love all birds and these housesitters are no exception. As an artist, I just love your photography.

I enjoy photographing seagulls as well here in the U.S. Unfortunately, some species, like herring gulls and ring-billed gulls can be pests on inland waters. Our federal government sometimes has to come in and remove whole nesting colonies from building because they are such pests. Unfortunate, but true. Beautiful image, I like the darkness to it, and how the highlights of the gulls aren’t blown at at all.

Seaguls are beautiful birds, but they have such a reputation of being really ‘rude’ birds (and a well deserved reputation too). They can become quite aggressive whenever there’s food involved!

Still, this picture is such a nice reminder of being at the coast. I miss living close to the coast, and envy that you have so much time to analyze their cries. I would love doing something like that.
