Living in Norway I feel quite secure when it comes to my work situation as our economy is in a very good place compared with rest of Europe. Most companies here are still hiring and in some industries there actually is a lack of skilled employees.
But things can change if the world economy gets even worse since this will most definitely spread to my country too. While I’m not concerned about my job others might have a tougher time and even lose their job. Worker rights are pretty strong in Norway, but there could be situations where you need to find a compromise agreement to settle disputes between the employee and employer.
Since there is a lot of trouble in Europe rumors are spreading about how good we have it here in Norway. Some people from countries like Spain and Greece has traveled here to find work. There are several examples of people traveling abroad right now to find work.
The amount of people coming here is still not huge numbers and some employers are a bit surprised about the lack of job hunters, but it could increase a lot if things do not get better in Europe. This could put strains on the job market even here in wealthy Norway. While I welcome people to find jobs here in Norway, I really hope the world economy betters itself so people do not have to break of with their family and friends to find work. I’m also a bit afraid that there will social unrest if our politicians do not fix the financial mess.
