The cute white wagtail (Motacilla alba) birds are back! It is so nice to see new birds almost every day as it gets warmer and warmer. All the new birds are a good reason to go outside with a camera and capture some pictures.
The white wagtail is personal favorite of mine because of the way the bird hunt insects. The wagtail usually walks around and then suddenly fly up in an irregular way to catch some kind of yummy insect. They are very fascinating to watch and I’m thankful that they keep the fly population down.
I love the red color on the sand corns on this beach. I’m not sure why the sand is so red, but it looks very different from the other beaches around.

Check out this picture from last spring of a white wagtail sitting on a stone. Maybe it is the same bird?

If you have been following this blog you probably know that I enjoy taking photographs of the simple beauties in nature. I was walking the beach and liked the colors on the stones, seaweed and ocean so I photographed the scene when a small wave came in.
The light this time of the year can be marvelous :)

I was taking a walk on the beach when suddenly the sun created some nice light behind the mountains. There was also some reflections in the windy ocean so I had to get down on my knees to take a picture.
The foam and rocks in the foreground makes the composition more interesting to me.

Found a small place on the coast that was filled with different kinds of beautiful shells. I had to take a picture of a selection of the shells.
Anyone know what the shells are called?

These shells are called Ocean Quahog (Arctica islandica) and I had to take a photo of them because I liked the way the pair was placed on the sandy beach.
In Norwegian we call them Cow-Shells, probably because of their beautiful red/brown color.
According to the Norwegian Wikipedia (the English version doesn’t have an article about ocean quahog shells) there have been found individuals of these shells that are as old as 220 years!

Seems like the autumn is here to stay.
In this photo you can see some bad weather coming in from the sea. Those “streaks” you see in the horizon, on the photo, is sleet that arrived at my home a few hours later. I’m not a big fan of sleet, but I think it made a cool picture.

I woke up today to snow covering the mountain peaks. It is a sign that autumn will soon be coming here in northern Norway, but it makes a pretty picture don’t you think?

The mountain peaks are 1000 meters above the sea.

I really enjoy walking the coast and observe all the life living amongst the rocks, pebbles, sand and seaweed. My macro lens is a perfect tool to take photos of all this wonderful life.
Here you can see some snails and algae (I think it is gut weed (Ulva intestinalis)). Also notice all the beautiful details and colors in the sand/rocks.

Check out this other macro photo from the coast. It’s of a snail with seaweed as background. Liked the composition on that one.

It was raining all day, but I really felt like photographing so I went for a trip on one of our sandy beaches. Here you can see some typical Norwegian autumn weather with wind and rain.
Hope there will be some more warm days before the winter hits us.
