We have had a lot of gray weather lately so there hasn’t been many photo opportunities, but the other day there was some colored clouds in the sky in the evening. I had to take out the camera and photograph these birch trees with the clouds as background. Also notice the cold mist behind the winter trees.
I recommend that you click on the picture to view it large to get a better perspective of the wide angle (11mm).

I was out walking in the forest early today and I came across this field that was frozen. I really enjoyed all the grass that had frozen in the water and the trees standing around the field covered with rime.
We are having a cold period with -12C so everything outside is covered with frozen water and gives me a lot of photo opportunities.

Happy new year everyone! My resolution for 2009 is to take way more pictures and post them on this blog as I have lately been a bit lazy when it comes to photography. I love the short period when every dandelion plant seems to flower at the exact same time. A field full of yellow flowers on a sunny day is a beautiful sight so I could not resist taking out the camera to snap some pictures. Since I’m a big fan of photographing boatsheds I had to make a composition with a shed in the picture.
As you can see there is still some snow in the mountains here in Northern Norway, but the green color is creeping pretty fast upward to the top of the mountains. Maybe it is time to go for a photo-hike up those mountainsides?

Check out a few shots of grass fields from last summer:
Yesterday was our National Day (also known as the Norwegian Constitution Day) here in Norway and on that day it is typical for everyone to raise the Norwegian flag to celebrate our declaration of independence from the Swedes.
In this picture you can see the old house where I grew up. The weather wasn’t too bad here in Northern Norway, except for the occasional light snowfalls and cold winds from the north

Check out this picture that I shot 17th of May last year in about the same spot. Look how much greener the grass was last year. The spring has been pretty cold in Northern Norway this year.
Taken with Olympus E500 digital camera March 14th 2008. Click image for larger view.
In this picture you can see a traditional, old Norwegian summer barn with some mountains as background. In older times these barns were used to house livestock during the summer season. The summer barns were often located a bit away from the farm land and closer to the forests and mountains where the livestock grazed.
Notice the common juniper and small birch trees growing on the summer barn’s grass roof. It must be decades since it was last in use.
The sun was about to set and so that explains the red color on the snow.

In this picture you can see the family boatshed with some snow covered mountains as background.
You can tell from the battered look that the boatshed have endured countless of harsh storms. It’s tilting a bit to left because of some extreme storms a few years ago that moved the boatshed a good 40 cm (16 inch) from the foundation. I hope it wont fall down over my boat
The tallest mountain in the background is called Å-tinden and is about 1000 meters above sea level.

In this picture you can see some straws growing at the coast in Northern Norway. I love the texture of this kind of straws so I thought they would look great together with the old boathouses.
I wanted to get the boathouses a bit out of focus so I pushed the aperture down f/3.5 and focused on the grass straws to get the depth of field that I thought would suit the composition.

Check out my other boathouse pictures here. I’m starting to get a nice collection of boathouse photos
We had another day with strong winds from the northwest, but today I dared taking my camera outside for a few photos of the great waves.
In this picture you can see some seagulls sailing on the strong winds. It looked like the seagulls were enjoying themselves and had no problems with the extreme conditions. I’m guessing they were hanging around looking for snacks that the ocean was throwing ashore.
After a big storm like this it’s fun to go for strolls along the coastline to see if the waves have washed up anything cool. Might go for one of those strolls tomorrow and of course I will bring the camera

If you want to have a closer look of our seagulls have a look at this picture.
In this black and white picture you can see the house that I grew up in. It is located at the tip of a small headland called Laupstad, one of the most idyllic places in Northern Norway (in my humble opinion).
The cloud formations on this day was stunning and I found them fitting as a background for the old house and barn.
I converted this picture into black and white and added some vignetting because to me this looks much like the rural scenes I have seen in old photographs from Northern Norway.

The same house can be seen in this picture where you can see how close it is placed to the wild ocean and this photo (in colors) when the sun has just come back.
