The Oslofjord in Norway was covered with ice this winter due to some very cold periods, and since I travel by ferry over the fjord almost every day I was able to get some pictures of the broken ice.
The ice wasn’t that thick so the ferries were able to travel, but smaller boats had to stay in the harbors.

And here is a picture where you can get a closer view of the ice covering the Oslofjord. Ice and snow can be beautiful!
We have had a very cold period here in the southeastern part of Norway with temperatures down to -18C (-0.4F) and the cold weather created tons of beautiful ice crystals. Here I have photographed a big one that the sun shone on creating nice, shimmering light. I recommend that you click on the image and view it large to see more of the fantastic details in the snow crystal(s).

Note: The photo of the ice crystal was taken in the southeastern part of Norway.
I was out walking in the forest early today and I came across this field that was frozen. I really enjoyed all the grass that had frozen in the water and the trees standing around the field covered with rime.
We are having a cold period with -12C so everything outside is covered with frozen water and gives me a lot of photo opportunities.

Happy new year everyone! My resolution for 2009 is to take way more pictures and post them on this blog as I have lately been a bit lazy when it comes to photography. The winter is getting closer here in Norway and some nights have been below the freezing point. If you get up early before the sun starts to warm up the place you can discover that the landscape is covered with rime (frost).
Here I have photographed a Meadow buttercup flower (Ranunculus acris) that was covered with rime and I think it looks quite beautiful.
The Meadow buttercup flower is probably one of the last flowers I will be able to photograph in the wild this year, but the dark seasons will hopefully bring many photo opportunities too.

Here I have photographed water drops falling from some icicles that were melting on a sunny day here in Northern Norway. In the picture I used the fjord and snow clad mountains as a background to the icicle. I love all the small, beautiful details in nature. Like in this picture where I have photographed a small wave breaking over a chunk of ice on the coast in Northern Norway. If you click on the image and look at it large you can see how the ocean have formed the ice and look at the lovely colors of the ocean.
If one takes the time to sit down and observe there is always something interesting to be found in the nature

I was walking in the forest when I stumbled across some icicles hanging from a common juniper (Juniperus communis) branch. Might not be the most exciting thing to photograph, but I really enjoy the small details in nature, that make you stop in your tracks to make a closer look.

It was pretty hard to focus because there is so little light at the moment, hence the long exposure.
