I was out rowing, for the first time this year, when I saw this herring gull (Larus argentatus) standing on a seawall. Had to take a picture of the seagull with the snow covered forest as background.
Let me tell you that it is not particularly easy to take photos from a small and rocky rowboat. Especially when you are trying to zoom in on a bird.

Here is another picture of the seawall.
Taken with Olympus E-500 digital camera 9th March 2007

This is the harbor where I have my fishing boat. The seawall is very effective to keep out bad weather and big waves.
Really enjoyed the evening light and the reflection of the mountains.

Strong winds hit the local Norwegian village Laupstad and you can see why they built this seawall. At the current tide the seawall is 2-3 meters above sea level, but still the waves get over it.

The seawall was built in 1930s to protect the fishing boats from strong winds. It was made by hand!
It is truly amazing that is still stands after 90 years of battering.

Notice the seagull in the upper right corner of the photography. The seagulls were just floating on the strong winds and actually seemed to enjoy the bad weather
