Aker Brygge is an area in Oslo by the sea. It consists of shopping centers, offices and expensive apartments. Aker Brygge is known to be a pricey place even for us Norwegians.
Every time I go to Oslo I visit Aker Brygge as the ferry from Nesodden (where I live) to Oslo ends up at Aker Brygge.

In this picture I have photographed the main entrance of one of the shopping centers at Aker Brygge. I really enjoyed the blue tones of the evening behind the building and I liked the special perspective you get when you put the camera on the ground with all the pebbles and planks. If you click on the picture and view it large you can see some of the people walking by.

We have been having some crazy snowfalls lately here in Southern Norway (I moved to the south from Northern Norway half a year ago for those who don’t know). Some people might think all the snow means a lot of trouble, but I like it. It is fun to play in the snow with the kids and it creates many good photo opportunities.

In this photo you can see a pine tree totally covered in snow. All the snow on the branches show how much snow that really came in a matter of a few hours.
I found the pine tree when I was walking in the forest with snow up to my hip. It was hard walking, but it was wonderful to watch all the untouched snow.

Check out my other photo of a pine tree in winter landscape and other snow pictures here.
We have had a lot of gray weather lately so there hasn’t been many photo opportunities, but the other day there was some colored clouds in the sky in the evening. I had to take out the camera and photograph these birch trees with the clouds as background. Also notice the cold mist behind the winter trees.
I recommend that you click on the picture to view it large to get a better perspective of the wide angle (11mm).

I was out walking in the forest early today and I came across this field that was frozen. I really enjoyed all the grass that had frozen in the water and the trees standing around the field covered with rime.
We are having a cold period with -12C so everything outside is covered with frozen water and gives me a lot of photo opportunities.

Happy new year everyone! My resolution for 2009 is to take way more pictures and post them on this blog as I have lately been a bit lazy when it comes to photography. Here I have photographed the landscape outside my house in Nesodden (Akershus county in southeastern Norway) after a fresh snowfall. The snow covered everything with a thick layer of white crystals making the landscape calm and quiet.
Fresh snow can look very good and makes many photo opportunities. I turned this picture into black and white since the scenery didn’t contain many colors and BW often fits snow sceneries very well.

I’m a bit surprised with the winter here in southeastern part of Norway as I thought it would be much warmer than I’m used to from the north. It has actually snowed more here than the average Northern Norway-winter, but you don’t get the cold winds from the arctic sea here in the south.

Some months ago I was contacted by an employee at a magazine called The New Yorker. They had found one of my pictures on the world wide web and wanted to use it in collage that were to illustrate a fictional story. The picture they found was of some clouds hugging a mountain. I didn’t think the picture was my best, but it probably was perfect for the artist at The New Yorker.
It is very nice to get recognized like this and of course get paid for your work. It makes it worthwhile to get out and take more pictures of all the beauty around us.

Here is the picture The New Yorker used:

Now the story is published in The New Yorker and if you want to check out the story and collage with my picture check out this link.
The last few nights has seen more or less clear skies and since the moon was just full I had to step outside to take this picture of the moon rising above some treetops. I like the mystic feeling in this picture with the shining clouds around the moon and the treetops that makes a kind of frame in the picture. If you click on the picture and view it in large size you can get a better view of treetops.

I especially like this one of the moon over a winter mountain and this picture of a “red” moon over the island Senja.
In this picture I have captured what was a fantastic midnight sunset here in Northern Norway. The sunset created some incredible light where this village in the sea was bathed in a beam of sunshine. The picture should be looked at in large size to get a better view of the sunset.
The midnight sun is already gone (I can’t believe how fast this summer has passed), but the nights are still very light if the rain clouds could stay away.

The distant village is called Laupstad and is the place where I grew up (hence my last name Laupstad). The mountains in the background is a part of the second largest island in Norway, Senja.

I have photographed the same village from above in this picture and in this picture you can see the village with a some pink sunset-clouds as background at 01:30 AM.
I love the short period when every dandelion plant seems to flower at the exact same time. A field full of yellow flowers on a sunny day is a beautiful sight so I could not resist taking out the camera to snap some pictures. Since I’m a big fan of photographing boatsheds I had to make a composition with a shed in the picture.
As you can see there is still some snow in the mountains here in Northern Norway, but the green color is creeping pretty fast upward to the top of the mountains. Maybe it is time to go for a photo-hike up those mountainsides?

Check out a few shots of grass fields from last summer:
In this picture I have photographed a sunset late in the evening (at 11 PM) from my bedroom window. I love this view and I never get tired of looking at it
Notice all the snow in the mountains that you can see in the horizon (if you click on the picture to view it large it easier to see the snow). We are still a bit away from summer here in Northern Norway and spring has been pretty cold so far. It will hopefully get warmer here soon so a cold Norwegian can get a tan
