In this picture I have captured what was a fantastic midnight sunset here in Northern Norway. The sunset created some incredible light where this village in the sea was bathed in a beam of sunshine. The picture should be looked at in large size to get a better view of the sunset.
The midnight sun is already gone (I can’t believe how fast this summer has passed), but the nights are still very light if the rain clouds could stay away.

The distant village is called Laupstad and is the place where I grew up (hence my last name Laupstad). The mountains in the background is a part of the second largest island in Norway, Senja.

I have photographed the same village from above in this picture and in this picture you can see the village with a some pink sunset-clouds as background at 01:30 AM.

The starling couple that I photographed and blogged about in this post laid eggs in the birdhouse on our barn this year too. Here is some pictures that of the starlings feeding their young.

It seems like this young starling was really excited to get a taste of the delicious bug. Notice the tongue sticking out ;)

Ahh, food! The parent really makes sure that the young starling is swallowing her/his food.

The young starling waits for more bugs to arrive. If you click on the image to view it large you can see a cute little feather on the head of the young starling.
I wonder how the other young birds are able to get food when this one is blocking their access to feasting on bugs..

This parent starling seemed a bit worried about my presence, but a few moments later it fed the larvae to a hungry young starling.

The young birds are now out of the birdhouse and the starling couple lays on a second batch of eggs.
I want to thank the starlings for posing for me and keeping down the bug population in the neighborhood :)

In this picture you can see a young European magepie (Pica pica). This bird had just come out of its nest. It was not the slightest afraid of humans and thus I was able to get very close to take some photos.
The magpies are plentiful here in Northern Norway and are known to steal shiny objects like glasses or silverware. Not sure if there is any truth to this or maybe it is just a legend?

Time for a landscape picture showing off how nice the summer in Northern Norway can be. The seagull flying over me is a great black-backed seagull. You can see a close up photo of this type of seagull here.
I really liked the fluffy clouds and the morning fog that is about to disappear from the mountains. Looking forward to next years summer :)

I took this picture of the beautiful sunset back in July when the weather was warmer here in northern Norway. Been very chilly here lately so I wanted to see a reminder of warmer times :)
Notice the tern that is about to land on the rowboat. It was a bit stressing to capture the tern exactly when it was landing.

As you can see in this photo, summer has not completely left northern Norway.

These rocks are part of an old seawall that protects our boats against the wild storms that can hit northern Norway in the autumn and winter.
You can see the seawall with waves beating against (and over) it in this photo and in this photo with more calm weather.

These flowers are called Yellow Loosestrife (Lysimachia punctata) and they flower late in the summer. I photographed the flowers in my grand mothers garden where I find lots of interesting stuff to take photos of.

I liked the light on this marsh so had to photograph the cottongrass (Eriophorum). The sunlight came seeping trough a small forest that was growing at the outskirts of the marsh. I think cottongrass is a beautiful plant with its fluffy appearance.

This photo was taken at 9PM in the evening so the sun was pretty low. 2 hours later the sun had gone behind the mountains and mist started to appear on the marshes. Check out this photo of the mist. One of my personal favorites :)
