The sun has finally come back here in Northern Norway, but because of clouds I have yet to actually see it. Later in the afternoon I got to see this spectacular winter sunset and because of the warm, still weather it felt like spring time. Had to take some pictures to share the sunset with you 🙂

8 days till the sun comes back in Northern Norway – Polar night sunset picture

8 days till the sun comes back in Northern Norway - Polar night sunset picture
The sun will reappear in 8 days, here in Northern Norway, and it will be first sighted between those small mountain peaks on the left in the picture. Can’t wait for it to happen 🙂
But the light can be very magical during the dark season too. Just like in this photo where suddenly the sky turned red.

The same mountain can be seen in this picture.

The polar days (I guess the correct term would be polar night day?) are pretty dark here in Northern Norway, but there are some nice sights to be seen. The sun made some nice colors at midday so I had to take my dear camera out in the cold weather.

The same mountains, in an autumn setting, can be seen in this picture.

Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) in Northern Norway on New Years Eve – Natures own fireworks

Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) in Northern Norway on New Years Eve
Taken with Olympus E500 digital camera December 31st 2007. Click image for larger view.

New Years Eve here in Northern Norway, brought some Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) for me to photograph. I prefer this kind of fireworks to the noisy man-made fireworks that last for a couple of seconds. The spots in the sky are star trails as I used a 40 seconds exposure. I also used my LED headlight to lighten up the boatshed a bit.

This is actually my first attempt at Northern Lights photography and I’m pretty happy with the outcome, although I will do it a bit different the next time. Hope there will be lots more Northern Lights later this winter and that it will be a bit stronger.

Happy New Year! Hope 2008 will be great for you all 🙂

Have a look of the same boatshed when there is more light around.

Picture of moon over a snow covered Senja – the second largest island in Norway

Picture of moon over a snow covered Senja

The moon was very beautiful today so I had to take a picture when it was about to disappear behind a mountain on the island Senja. Senja is the second largest island in Norway with its 1586,3 km². I see the island every day in the horizon so that is why Senja often appears in my pictures.
This picture was taken midday so you can see how little light we have right now, but the days are getting longer and longer 🙂

Check out my other pictures of the moon:

A late merry Christmas to everyone!
