Camper Van hire in Norway

If you like to travel on your Holidays without spending a lot of money, you might want to consider a Camper Van hire in Norway. It gives you the freedom to keep your own schedule, while providing you with many of the comforts of home. Plus it doubles as a rental car.

A camper van is cheaper than a hotel, while being much easier to set up than a tent. It also provides better protection should the weather turn bad, so you can take advantage of off season travel.

You can find camper vans that will sleep anywhere from two to six people, so it’s easy to accommodate any number of people who wish to travel together on Holidays. They generally come fully equipped so you don’t need to worry about bedding, cooking utensils, dishes, et cetera. Some even have showers.

If you’re flying into Norway, some rental agencies will even provide transportation between the airport and the rental site. It’s also possible to pick up your camper van in one Scandinavian city or country and drop it off in another one so you don’t have to double back on your route.

Looking for adventure? A Camper Van hire in Norway may be the ideal solution for your next family vacation. You can also check out this New York Times article about when you should travel to Norway.

Here is a picture of a fish called angler fish (Lophius piscatorius) that I caught in a herring net this summer. It was not a big fish, but the angler was a pleasant surprise as I have never caught one of these before either with a fishing rod or in in my fishing nets. It was also a new experience to fillet the fish as it had a pretty tough skin.

The angler fish is also known as fishing-frog, frog-fish and sea-devil. This is a predatory fish that live on the seabed along the coast of Norway. There it lives of prey that the fish attracts with a “rod” on its head. Anglerfish live mainly of other fish, but it can even catch diving birds.
The specimen I received in the herring net was not big, but anglerfish can weigh up to 100 kg with a world record at 99.4 kg caught near Bergen in Norway.

Note: This picture was taken with an Apple iPhone 3GS so it is not the best quality.

Portrait picture of rooster (Gallus gallus domesticus) – Our handsome male chicken

Our rooster (Gallus gallus domesticus) is a handsome fellow that likes to show us who is the boss in the “flock” is. He takes the role as a protector of the hens very serious and can sometimes be pretty aggressive towards people.

In between crows I was able to take a portrait picture of him while he was posing on some rails. I advise you to click on the picture to look at our beautiful rooster in full size.

Even though the rooster can be aggressive it will protect our hens against dangers such as cats, foxes and hopefully against attacks from hawks. Daily our hens give us tasteful eggs which would be a pity to lose.

Here is a also a picture of the whole rooster:

Here is a close up picture of a Goat Moth Larva (Cossus Cossus) that we found last spring. This larva is found in most of Norway, but not further north than Nordland county. The larva often lives in old trees with leaves where it can live from two to five years before it crawls out. The goat moth larva can grow up to 10 cm long and the specimen in the picture is the largest larva I have ever seen. If you look closer at the picture you can see that the larva has some pretty big jaws. I did not dare hold it because it was pretty aggressive and bit straws that we put in front of it.

Spring is soon coming so hopefully there will be many opportunities to take pictures of cool insects and other buggers.
Check out my other photos of insects here.

Picture from the Oslofjord, Norway covered with broken ice

The Oslofjord in Norway was covered with ice this winter due to some very cold periods, and since I travel by ferry over the fjord almost every day I was able to get some pictures of the broken ice.
The ice wasn’t that thick so the ferries were able to travel, but smaller boats had to stay in the harbors.

And here is a picture where you can get a closer view of the ice covering the Oslofjord. Ice and snow can be beautiful!
