Black and white picture of rural scenery in Northern Norway – The house I grew up in

Black and white picture of rural scenery in Northern Norway

In this black and white picture you can see the house that I grew up in. It is located at the tip of a small headland called Laupstad, one of the most idyllic places in Northern Norway (in my humble opinion).
The cloud formations on this day was stunning and I found them fitting as a background for the old house and barn.
I converted this picture into black and white and added some vignetting because to me this looks much like the rural scenes I have seen in old photographs from Northern Norway.

The same house can be seen in this picture where you can see how close it is placed to the wild ocean and this photo (in colors) when the sun has just come back.

Macro photo of pink primula flowers with water drops

Time for a picture from the spring to remind ourselves of warmer times to come 🙂

The Primula got it’s name from the Latin word Primus that means “the first one”. It got it’s name because it is one of the first flowers to blossom in the spring.
The flowers are native to the temperate Northern Hemisphere, south into high altitude tropical mountains in Ethiopia, Indonesia and New Guinea, and are also found in temperate southern South America.
There are amazingly 400-500 species of Primula and some of species are called primrose, auricula, cowslip and oxlip. I have just seen a handful, but there are some really nice color combinations out there.

Up here in the north it is a very usual garden flower and it is spreading everywhere. Have you got Primula in your garden? Feel free to leave a comment 🙂

Check out a few other flower pictures I have photographed:

Picture of rural evening scene in Northern Norway – The days are getting shorter

The days are definitely getting shorter here in Northern Norway! I took this picture 4 PM in the “evening”.
I really love this scene with the combination of mountain and sea (and of course the boatsheds).

A similar scene, in a spring setting, can be seen in this photo.

Picture of rural winter scenery in northern Norway – The sun has just come back

Picture of rural winter scenery in northern Norway
Taken with Olympus E500 digital camera on February 15th 2007. Click image for larger view.

In this photo you see the house where I lived my first 12 years. It looks very idyllic in this winter scenery, doesn’t it? The place where the house stands is called “Solhaug”. In English it would be called something like “Sun Hill”.

The picture was taken on 15th of February so the sun had just come back here in northern Norway. The sun was still very low in the horizon so that is why it creates this beautiful and special light.

Check out this photo of the same house, but from another angle where you can see how close it is located to the ocean.

My most popular picture on Flickr – Row of Norwegian boathouses on a winter day

I really liked the rural look on this row of boathouses. The grass roof doesn’t hurt the scene with it’s old look. Boathouses like this represent the old fishing culture here in Norway in a good way. I hope people will take care of these beautiful buildings!

This is also my most popular photo on Flickr. It has received almost 11,000 views and been made favorite 70 times. It reached the fourth position in Flickr Explore on the day the picture was uploaded.
Flickr Explore is an algorithm that chooses the 500 most popular pictures (out of millions!) being uploaded to Flickr each day so it is quite an honor to reach the fourth position.

In this picture I have used something called HDR (High dynamic range) to make the picture look a bit different.

Check out my other boatshed pictures here.
