In this macro photo you see the carnivorous plant sundew. This specific specie is known as Great sundew or English sundew (Drosera anglica).
The sundew plants catch and eat insects to supplement their diet. The sticky drops on the leaves attract insects and when they land the sundew plants close their leaves so the insects can’t escape.

Photo from a day out fishing on the sea in northern Norway
Taken with Olympus E500 digital camera September 22nd 2007. Click image for larger view.

What a wonderful day it was to be out on the sea here in northern Norway. The sea was completely calm and the clouds was amazing so a perfect day for a fishing trip. In this photo you can see my uncle steering my boat to the fishing grounds. Did not catch much fish, but it was a very nice trip on the fjord.

Is it just me or are the clouds and the reflection in the calm sea just down right beautiful?

Photo of sunbeams coming up from a snowy mountain in northern Norway

Close up photo of aspen leaves with autumn colors
Taken with Olympus E500 digital camera January 20th 2007. Click image for larger view.

In this photo you can see sunbeams coming up from a mountain. It is the only time I have seen sunbeams shine the “wrong” way and I was wondering what was hiding behind those mountains.
As you can see by all the snow in the mountain, this picture was taken back in January (actually 3 days after I got my sweet camera) and at this time of the year we have no sun up here in northern Norway.

The days are not totally dark (referred to as Polar night) as we have twilight in the middle of the day, but the sun is gone for several months.
When the sun comes back in the end of January we use to celebrate and think about warmer times that includes midnight sun.

Do you think you could live in a place where there is no sunshine for several months?

For other pictures of the same mountain check this one and this one.

The forest colors are changing fast in the autumn. One of the most beautiful sights are that of aspen trees (Populus tremula) with their staggering yellow and red colors.

In this close up photo of some aspen leaves, you can see the leaves in the process of changing color from yellow to red.

See this blog post for more pictures of autumn colors.

I took this photo back in March when the landscape was filled with snow and everything was quiet. The sun was about to set and you can see the very special light that occur when the days are so short.

In northern Norway we don’t often experience such nice weather in March. Earlier that day I took advantage of the good weather and went out fishing. You can see a photo from the fishing trip here.
