I was out rowing, for the first time this year, when I saw this herring gull (Larus argentatus) standing on a seawall. Had to take a picture of the seagull with the snow covered forest as background.
Let me tell you that it is not particularly easy to take photos from a small and rocky rowboat. Especially when you are trying to zoom in on a bird.

Here is another picture of the seawall.

Picture of snow covered forest and small village at the coast in Northern Norway

We had some fresh snowfalls overnight so the forest got a beautiful layer of snow. Seems like the spring is set back a few days..
The small village by the ocean is called Ã…, which is a very common village name in Norway.

If you look closely at the picture you can see a couple of boatsheds on the shore. These boatsheds can be seen in another photo of mine with an opposite angle.

Exposure: 0.001 sec (1/800)

Focal Length: 81 mm

I was walking in the forest the other day when the reflection of the sunset started to glow on the snow around me. I had to take a picture of the beautiful scene with the trees covering the sun making a natural filter for my camera.
If you look at the photo in large size you can see some spots where the snow has melted and some old grass is peaking through. Spring is right around the corner here in Northern Norway 🙂

Check out this picture of snow covered trees in a scene looking a bit like The Chronicles of Narnia.

Picture of stone on the beach and incoming wave

If you have been following this blog you probably know that I enjoy taking photographs of the simple beauties in nature. I was walking the beach and liked the colors on the stones, seaweed and ocean so I photographed the scene when a small wave came in.
The light this time of the year can be marvelous 🙂

Check out this photo from the same beach but at midnight during the summer when there is light 24/7.

Close up picture of housefly (Musca domestica) on snow – First insect in Northern Norway

Close up picture of housefly (Musca domestica) on snow

We have had a couple of warm days here in Northern Norway and a few insects have been waking up from their hibernation. In this picture you can see a common housefly (Musca domestica) sitting on some snow. Usually these flies are very hard to get close enough to get a good macro shot, but I guess the cold from the snow made this fly move slowly.
I can’t wait for all the insects to come back so I can start taking tons of macro photos.

Check out some macro pictures of flies from last year:
Dance fly couple mating and eating a fly
Hoverfly on a poppy flower
