Autumn colors in northern Norway – photos of fireweed and dwarf cornel

The autumn have come to northern Norway and it is giving me some nice colors to photograph. Stay tuned for more autumn photos from Norway in the weeks to follow.

The first photo is a macro picture of a plant called dwarf cornel (Cornus suecica), also known as bunchberry. Love the deep red colors the leaves get in the autumn. In the photo you can also see some reindeer lichen growing on the right side.

In the next photo you can see how fireweed (Epilobium angustifolium) look in the autumn. The white parts are silky hairs that contain seed capsules. Wind will carry the seed capsules and if there are lots of fireweed growing it can look like snow.
In the background you can see typical autumn weather in northern Norway with clouds hanging very low in the mountains.
Check out this photo if you want to see fireweed flowers.

Photo of old seawall rocks with blue sky as background – still some summer in northern Norway

As you can see in this photo, summer has not completely left northern Norway.

These rocks are part of an old seawall that protects our boats against the wild storms that can hit northern Norway in the autumn and winter.
You can see the seawall with waves beating against (and over) it in this photo and in this photo with more calm weather.

I enjoyed how the sun was hiding behind the clouds in this sunset photo. The glow in the clouds looked was really special and made a nice sight.
Hope to see more good weather like this in September 🙂

Seems like the autumn is here to stay.
In this photo you can see some bad weather coming in from the sea. Those “streaks” you see in the horizon, on the photo, is sleet that arrived at my home a few hours later. I’m not a big fan of sleet, but I think it made a cool picture.

Close up picture of ripe cherries – they are edible in northern Norway!

I planted a cherry tree this spring and now my first ever berries are ripe. I’m kind of amazed that they would become edible so far north and let me tell you that they taste great 🙂
Not many berries to harvest this year because the tree is still so young.

I photographed the cherry flowers back in June. Check out the photo here.
