Macro photo of Ichneumon wasp
This freaky creature is a sort of Ichneumon wasp that lay eggs into other insects. Their larvae live as a parasite of other insects.

Picture of wave and seagulls sailing on strong wind in Northern Norway

Picture of wave and seagulls sailing on strong wind in Northern Norway
Taken with Olympus E500 digital camera February 15th 2008. Click image for larger view.
We had another day with strong winds from the northwest, but today I dared taking my camera outside for a few photos of the great waves.
In this picture you can see some seagulls sailing on the strong winds. It looked like the seagulls were enjoying themselves and had no problems with the extreme conditions. I’m guessing they were hanging around looking for snacks that the ocean was throwing ashore.
After a big storm like this it’s fun to go for strolls along the coastline to see if the waves have washed up anything cool. Might go for one of those strolls tomorrow and of course I will bring the camera 🙂

If you want to have a closer look of our seagulls have a look at this picture.

Picture of barn in Northern Norway against a stormy ocean

Picture of barn in Northern Norway against a stormy ocean

We had some extreme winds today with speeds between 55 and 60 MPH (25m/s). In this picture you can see the view from my bedroom window with the raging ocean behind the old barn. 10 minutes later I was not able to see the ocean because it was snowing small kittens.
It is nice to be inside in a warm house on such a day 🙂

Here is a photo of the same barn during a blizzard.

Picture of two Harbour Porpoise (Phocoena phocoena) swimming in a fjord in Northern Norway

Harbour Porpoise (Phocoena phocoena) is one of the smallest mammals living in the sea.
In this picture you can see two Harbour Porpoise swimming very close to my boat when I was out fishing last summer. They got a bad reputation of scaring the fish away so I wasn’t too happy to see the small whales.

The Harbour Porpoise can be very fascinating to observe when they hunt for fish as they swim extremely fast and make loud breathing noises when they come to the surface for a short moment. The whales can also be very curious animals (especially the young Harbour Porpoise) and can approach boats. I have several times experienced Harbour Porpoise swimming around and under my boat like some playful dolphins.
Hope I will never experience a porpoise getting caught on my fishing tackle. That would be some some ride! 😉

In this picture you can see the first sunlight here in Northern Norway this year, shining on a 1000 meter tall mountain peak. I loved the way the fresh snow on the top made the mountain peak look like it was made of white bricks.
If you click on the picture and look at it in large format you can see some enormous icicles hanging from the side of the mountain.

Check out this picture to see the mountain peak in full size.
