Old Norwegian fishing boats made out of wood is one of my favorite objects to photograph. In this picture you can see a fishing boat that haven’t been on the ocean for many years. It is kind of sad to see it decaying away and not being used for fisheries. Maybe one day someone will restore the boat and bring it back to the ocean where it belongs. If I only had the crafting skills..

Check out this picture of another old fishing boat on land where I have added “lomography” effect. Follow Photos from Northern Norway on Facebook.

Picture of old boatshed against snow covered mountains in Northern Norway

Taken with Olympus E500 digital camera March 1st 2008. Click image for larger view.
In this picture you can see the family boatshed with some snow covered mountains as background.
You can tell from the battered look that the boatshed have endured countless of harsh storms. It’s tilting a bit to left because of some extreme storms a few years ago that moved the boatshed a good 40 cm (16 inch) from the foundation. I hope it wont fall down over my boat 😉
The tallest mountain in the background is called Åtinden and is about 1000 meters above sea level.

Check out this photo of a decayed boathouse that is about to fall down.

Picture of sjark fishing boat sailing in evening scenery in Northern Norway

Taken with Olympus E500 digital camera March 4th 2008. Click image for larger view.
In this picture you can see a small fishing boat that is called “sjark” in Norwegian, sailing on the fjord. These small fishing boats are very typical for the fisheries on the coast in Northern Norway and I’m hoping that some day I will be doing fishing from a sjark too. They can be quite expensive to buy especially if you want to buy the boat with a quota for commercial fishing.
The spots over the boat and in the sky are seagulls and not dust spots on the camera sensor/lens 😉

Yesterday we had a beautiful and cold dusk here in Northern Norway. Had to take out the good old camera to capture some pictures of the sunset so I could share it with you all 🙂 I liked how the thin birch tree created a bit of a frame for the scenery.
The mountains in the horizon is a part of an island called Grytøya. The same island can be seen in this picture of the first days of winter last year.

Macro picture of Wild daffodil (Narcissus pseudonarcissus) sprouts covered in snow – Global warming?

Macro picture of Wild daffodil (Narcissus pseudonarcissus) sprouts covered in snow
Taken with Olympus E500 digital camera February 25th 2008. Click image for larger view.
The Wild daffodil (Narcissus pseudonarcissus) have been sprouting as early as mid January this year. This is extremely early for us in Northern Norway. Although we have had frost, snow and thawing several times the Wild daffodil can handle extreme conditions very good so I think these sprouts will survive.
In Norwegian this plant is called “PÃ¥skelilje” (Easter lily) because it usually show us its beautiful yellow flowers around Easter.

Yesterday I heard a meteorologist saying that so far this have been warmest winter ever recorded in Norway. I know that doesn’t prove anything, but it sure smells like global warming…

I can’t wait for the spring to come so I can photograph the flowers in full bloom. Meanwhile you can see some of my flower pictures from last year here. If I had to choose the picture of the Purple Saxifrage flower are my favorite because they were the first wild flowers I saw last spring.
